About the seminar

Old rules are breaking down, but historically new opportunities are arising for independent films. This seminar shows how to capture and profit from the new digital ecosystem.

Physical sales are declining, traditional cinema is becoming riskier - at the same time, VOD, AVOD, FAST channels, and platforms like YouTube are opening up entirely new revenue paths. Those who break rigid distribution cascades and intelligently network channels will win.

Beyond studio blockbusters, the question for independent content is no longer whether to utilise new platforms, but when and where: When is the perfect time in the distribution axis and in which territory does the greatest potential lie?

Seminar Content:

• Understanding market dynamics: Recognising the risks of market transformation and strategically leveraging the massive opportunities for indie films.

• Strategy over dogma: How intermedial networking (cinema, TV, VOD, FAST, YouTube) creates maximum visibility and revenue.

• Concrete roadmap: Strategies for optimal timing and territorial placement of your rights.

From Understanding to Action: Recognising and Seizing Opportunities

This practical seminar addresses the discrepancy between outdated theory and current market reality. We will ruthlessly analyse the shifts in the global independent market – with all their negative impacts, but above all with their massive positive potentials.

The aim of the seminar: To systematically capture the overwhelming flood of new opportunities (from EST and VOD to AVOD and FAST channels, as well as smart YouTube strategies) in order to subsequently seize them strategically and profitably. You will learn to leave old thought boundaries behind and to market films not through isolated distribution channels, but through a cleverly networked collaboration of placements.

What you will take away from us:

Understanding market dynamics: Grasping the risks of market transformation and strategically utilising the massive opportunities for indie films.

Strategy instead of dogma: How intermedial networking (cinema, TV, VOD, FAST, YouTube) creates maximum visibility and revenue.

Concrete roadmap: Strategies for the optimal temporal and territorial placement of your rights.

Joachim Keil

Joachim Keil is the Managing Director of UCM.ONE GmbH and has over 30 years of international experience in the media industry, focusing on copyright and global music and film marketing. He has actively accompanied the structural change from physical to digital media and is well aware of the discrepancy between economic theory and industry practice.

Today, he is advancing the concept of "intermedial and holistic film marketing." Instead of viewing exploitation windows (cinema, TV, VOD, FAST, DVD, etc.) in isolation, he focuses on their intelligent networking. He does not allow for rigid thinking boundaries: he does not engage in the emotional debate about whether films should be allowed on platforms like YouTube. For him, it is purely a strategic question of the perfect timing in the exploitation chain and the appropriate territory.

Joachim Keil lives with his family (married, two adult children) in Berlin.
