Storytelling from a different angle – Micro Drama from concept to analysis (Workshop with practical elements)

Micro-dramas are the fastest-growing video format in the world – and they’re only just beginning to take off in German-speaking countries. Those who master this format now will have a head start. This workshop, led by the team at Hinterhof Verticals, provides first-hand production expertise drawn from co-productions in South Korea and from the partnership with ByteDance / TikTok in the field of AI-powered micro-dramas.

The workshop focuses on the craft. Hooks that grab the viewer’s attention within the first few seconds. A story engine that carries an entire series. Cliffhanger structures that sustain 60 to 80 episodes. Added to this is a close look at Asian working methods – writers’ rooms, a high shooting frequency, decisions based on viewer data – and an honest assessment of what can and cannot be applied to a European production. Things get just as specific when it comes to filming. We’ll discuss how big a team really needs to be, how to film vertically without compromising on quality and what matters most in doing so, and where AI is already being used today – from story development right through to post-production. Finally, we’ll examine the distribution strategies and the economic viability of micro-dramas in Europe – and what they mean for financing, rights and the structure of a series.
