We are delighted to announce a new partnership between the European Film Business and Law LL.M. | MBA master's programme at the Erich Pommer Institut and MovieLedger, a Berlin-based specialist in production finance for European film and television whose work has been supported by Creative Europe’s MEDIA programme.

MovieLedger addresses one of the most persistent structural challenges in European production: the gap between financing that has been committed and financing that has actually been released. Producers often secure public funding, tax incentives and pre-sale or distribution agreements well before the money arrives, and bridging that interval can be decisive in getting a production off the ground. As traditional banks have stepped back from this kind of lending, specialist providers have become an increasingly important part of the European financing landscape.

The partnership is part of the programme's project module. Students of the fourth cohort, who are now beginning their third semester, work in interdisciplinary teams on practical projects in collaboration with corporate partners or their own employers. The topics are set by the partners and focus on concrete business or legal challenges within the European film and television industry. Alongside this year's other partners, MovieLedger will set one of the project challenges for the students. Throughout the module, students are supported by industry professionals and lecturers, with the process structured through kick-off sessions and group presentations.

“We are grateful for the trust the Erich Pommer Institut has placed in us, and we see it as a real distinction to work with the excellent students of this program. We look forward to discovering fresh ideas and new perspectives together, as we continue our work towards a meaningful and lasting contribution to Europe’s media landscape.” - Sophokles Tasioulis, CEO, MovieLedger

With this collaboration, the Erich Pommer Institut continues to connect academic study with the day-to-day realities of the industry, giving students direct insight into how European productions are financed and the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in their first year to a live challenge.
